The Wolf of Wall Street

I have chosen The Wolf of Wall Street for my case study, I chose it because I think that there is a lot you can write about this.

The institution of The Wolf of Wall Street is Red Granite Pictures.

The UK distributor for this movie is Universal Pictures International.

The genre of The Wolf of Wall Street is an American Black comedy; which means it is a comedy which contains illegal activity.

It illustrates in the trailer of this movie that this an American Black comedy because of all the crime and illegal activity it contains; like murder and fraud.

The Wolf of Wall Street is not a sequel.

In the trailer, none of the previous movies directed by the directors or performed by the actors are not mentioned in the trailer; I think that the reason for this is that they might want the audience to focus on this movie not any other one.

This movie was released in the 7 January 2014, the first trailer was released November 2013 by Paramount Pictures.

The Wolf of Wall Street has made a teaser trailer and a main trailer.

The public like The Wolf of Wall Street because 82% of viewers liked it on Rotten Tomatoes and say that it is funny and infectious.

Here are some reviews on Rotten Tomatoes for The Wolf of Wall Street:

Terence Winter's script is a natural and well-oiled machine that produces the words of a demigod. You couldn't make these things up.
This is a fantastic exploration of greed, money, and a truly flawed character that spent much of the nineties on a jaw-dropping but pernicious thrill-ride.
Though it's not a bad movie (it is Scorsese, after all), The Wolf of Wall Street is surprisingly off-putting, overlong and morally skewed.
The original budget for this movie was £63,097,000; which is equal to $100 million. In the opening weekend, The Wolf of Wall Street made £11569354.87, in total; the film made £116,900,694.

The last movie that the director of The Wolf of Wall Street(Martin Sorsese) directed was Shutter Island, in 2010, and The Departed, in 2006. The genre they both have is Thriller. But The Departed involves crime, similar to The Wolf of Wall Street. The main stars in all three movies are Leonardo DiCaprio. Leonardo DiCaprio is mentioned in the trailers.

Trailer Analysis

Furious 7
Genre:
Action, Adventure, Thriller.

Narrator:
This trailer shows Vin Diesel and his three other friends in the cars, in a plane; getting ready to jump out at the right time to save the woman in the coach. It also shows the man who kills Sung Kang, and that he is hunting the rest of them.

Character:
All the main characters are shown in this Furious 7 trailer; except for Sung Kang who was killed in Furious 6. It also shows Owen Shaw's "big bad brother,". This engages any Fast and Furious fans, they probably want him to be killed. It also shows that Vin Diesel and his gang want to fight whoever killed Sung Kang.

Iconography:
There are different things we see in this trailer, such as guns, car chases, explosions, crashes, crime and fighting crime. These are all elements of an exciting action movie. They make the whole movie thrilling and hard to look away from; it also makes the movie look a lot more intense.

Setting:
The first half of the trailer of Furious 7 is in a road near a cliff; where Lenny saves Paul Walker from falling off the cliff with the coach. The other place looks like it is set in Dubai, because the people in it look rich, there are luxury and prestigious cars and there shows a desert.

Annabelle
Genre:
Horror, Suspense.

Narrator:
This trailer shows a demon possessed by a doll that is placed in a house with a family in it. It shows the demon in the house and the trouble that the family is going through trying to get rid of it.

Character:
The main characters in this movie is obviously the doll, Annabelle, the demon, and the family. The less mentioned characters include the man and the woman who help this family understand why there is a demon in their home and investigating it.

Iconography:
We can see the doll; Annabelle, at the end there is a jump-scare of a little girl turning into the possessed demon. In the second half the music growing was adding intensity and made the audience want to block their ears.

Setting:
The trailer shows us that the most of Annabelle will be taking place in the family's house; where Annabelle and the demon are. This makes the audience feel like they are there, too. It also adds a lot of suspense and tension when it goes near night.

The Riot Club
Genre:
Drama.

Narrator:
A male is sent to the oldest ever university; and finds a club there, called the Riot Club. He wants to join, but the girl tell him they aren't his friends; they don't know when to stop. But he joins anyway, and becomes filthy, rich and spoilt.

Character:
The main two characters, a male and a female. The rest of the Riot Club are not put into as much detail as these two are.

Iconography:
We can see all the members partying and causing riots. It shows a normal man turn spoilt and posh.

Setting:
This trailer is taking place in the university, and sometimes outside, when they go to have joyrides, or when they go to have a beer, etc.

Magazine Cover Feedback

The Feedback:

 - Finish planning doc - need a main flash that links to image
 - Great title + Photo
 - Need to get actual words + i logo on cover
 - Needs main flash + cover lines on Photoshop.

In the next few lessons, I will be focusing on my headlines and my main flash, and to get an appropriate and good looking font for my headlines. Also, I willl try to get a new background colour because the one that I have at the moment doesn't look professional.

Minority Report Shot-by-Shot analysis.

Medium Close-Up (MCU)

In this medium close up it shows the guards and the emotion and expression on the face of the guard at the front, the reason they want to do this is because the guard at the front is a good friend to Tom Cruise, and they want the audience to realise this.

Establishing shot, Wide Shot (ES/WS)

This is an establishing shot used to set the scene at which Tom Cruise is being chased by the police. There is dark lighting and shadow show that they are in a dark alley where he is trying to escape from the police, it has a tiny bit of lighting near the back though, to show Tom Cruise escaping from the police.

Close-Up (CU)

This shot is a close up shot, I think that the reasons they made it a close up was to capture the emotion on his face after his own friends trying to get him and arrest him. It also shows that he is failing to cover his emotion by trying to change the subject.

Tuesday 16 September 2014

  High Angle:

This shot shows that the victim is being bullied by the bully. It makes the victim look small and weaker than the bully, it also makes it look as if they are being caught on CCTV.

 High Angle:

In this picture, it shows the victim trying to get up but she is being threatened by the bully. We can see this by the clenched fist.

High Angle:

In this shot, the bully has left and now the victim is being comforted, the victim looks very small and weak now because she is looking down and covering her face.

Over the shoulder shot:

In this over the shoulder shot it shows the victim being talked to and the camera is focused on her, this shows that she is the most important person in the shot.

Two Shot:

This is a two shot because there are two actors in the shot. it shows the bully pointing, ( or threatning.)the victim again and that the victim is looking up at the bully. The fact that the bully is looking down at her makes her look scared and vulnerable.

Adidas Predator Instinct Advert.

Media Language

The key conventions that tell us that this is an advert is the Adidas logo in the top right-hand corner. The slogan for these new boots - instinct takes over, makes the people believe that this is currently the best football boot there is, not just in Adidas, but also against their rivals, Nike. The key images on this advert are the football boots, it shows the history of the Adidas predator boots, all blurred, and the new boot in focus. The background is made dark so that the Adidas football boots stand out.

 Institution:

The major institution behind this advert is Adidas, the way that the new Predator Instincts are focused on, suggests that they are the greatest boots made.

 Audience:

The target audience for this advert is primarily football fans and people who play football. The gender percentage could be 80% male, and 20% female. Adidas will also be targeting people who are already wearing Nike football boots.  The age targeted by Adidas would be from 10-40. This product is quite cheap, from £20-£60, unlike Nike football boots, this factor can help the Adidas business.

 Representation:

The representation on this advert is adidas predator. Because all the boots in the picture are Adidas Predators, this is no surprise, because even though Adidas Predators aren't the only Adidas football boots, they are by far the most famous. In my opinion, the reason that they made a new football boot was because it would look more appealing, more professional, and it would definitely be more successful.

Media Debates

Celebrities have too much influence in society.

I do agree with this statement because there are a lot of people who look up to celebrities and want to be like them. Social networks, such as Instagram and facebook, which provide people with information about celebrities. Some celebrities are good role models, but others are not, these include celebrities like Miley Cyrus, ho twerks in front of little kids, Justin Bieber, for smoking and drunk driving, and John Terry, for being racist.

Fans of celebrities like these, are taught things that they shouldn't be. These are be reasons why some people commit crimes.

Beheading of a second US Journalist by Islamic state.
British hostage is threatened by jihadist.
The parents of Ashya King released from prison.
European plans to protect wildflower meadows have had the opposite effect.

The reason why the US Journalist article was read before the British hostage, was because the US journalist had been killed, but the British hostage has been threatened, he hasn't been killed yet, and could be released.

The next article, about Ashya King's family, was also very important, just like the reason that news on Ashya King is always on the front page, he is a five year old with a brain tumour which means that news on his parents are very important, which means that it's important that his parents are free and can see him, now.

The last article, about the European plan to protect wildflower meadows backfiring, was a big thing. But not big enough to be read out first, or early. This article was read at the end.

Man Utd buy the columbian striker, Radamel Falcao.
Clubs try to find the player that will make the difference between success, and failure before 11pm tonight.
NASA has released footage of sun flares that could reach us here on earth.

The first article was read because it was the more important than anything else that was read out. But  a new change in curriculum was also very important because it was a quick change and a very big one, too.

I think, that the NASA headline,( which was read out last.) should have been read before the Radamel Falcao headline.

The Man Utd buying Radamel Falcao was read before the other clubs trying to find an important player, because Falcao is one of the best footballers that still plays.

The Royal bank of Scotland has been fined 14.5 million for failing to insure that customers were given proper advice about their mortgages.

Celebrations in Gaza after a long-term ceasefire between israel and the palestinian groups.
A nine year old has accidentally killed her shooting instructor.
California has been hit by its worst drought in a decade, taps have run dry.
Robots could be used to do the job of sheepdogs.
Old couple celebrate their 80th anniversary, both over 100 years old.

I think that the order that these were read in were reasonable. The first three have had a great effect on many people. The fourth one effected only a few people, but taught many people a lesson, the fifth one read ( The California drought) has obviously effected many people in California and with families that live in California. The last two definitely do not effect many people, they're just news. They should be given less attention.

BBC News 3)

I think that the target audience for BBC News is 13-50. I think this because BBC News isn't very formal, like Channel 4 News, but it also isn't to informal, there aren't too many jokes and so it isn't like newsround, so I think that children wouldn't watch it, but 13 year olds and higher would. I also think that people older than the age of 50 wouldn't like to watch BBC News, but would prefer to watch something more like Channel 4 news, which I think is very formal and suits an older age.

In my opinion, 65% Male would watch BBC News, and 35% female.

Greenford news story: GHS Rounders team win the league.
National news story: Nigeria's Boko Haram deadly bomb kills 18 people.
London news story: 23 year old man dies after taking part in an online punching game.
Sports news story: Belgium hang on to beat USA 2-1.
Funny news story: Woman gives birth outside Primark.

Greenford news story: We chose this story because it means that they had success.
National news story: We chose this story because it was serious and that Boko Haram are terrorists.
London news story: We chose this story because it was mysterious and confusing.
Sports news story: We chose this story because Belgium are through to the quarter finals against Argentina at 05/07/2014.
Funny news story: We chose this story because the woman told everyone to film her and to clap for her and people threw money at her and she received £300-£400.

Our Greenford story was read first, then our national story, then our London news story, then our sports story, and finally our funny story.

We made sure that she was able to read it quickly enough.

We made it so that there weren't so many words and so the listener could understand what she was saying.

It was profesional because I wasn't reading it.

My role, writing the script was the most important.

4, because we did it quickly.

If the girl wouldn't say that she wasn't going to read it.

Our's was almost perfect, but I'd tell her that she wasn't meant to laugh.

I chose GCSE Media because I got told that it was fun and challenging.

I am looking forward to making my music video.

I hope to learn how to comment on different pictures and videos that I see in more detail
           than I normally would.

Realistically, I hope to achieve an A or an A* in GCSE Media.

The last thing I watched on TV, was the World Cup, Brazil vs Chile.

The World cup match appealed to the audience, because the world cup is very major, and
Brazil and Chile are two very good teams.

The last technology I used to access media in the last 24 hours was phone.

The technology I use most often to access media are laptop and phone.

Chicago's Sears Tower hit by lightning three times.

Argentina 1-0 Switzerland. I think this might have been the main news story because
Di Maria scored in the last minute and so they are through to the quarter finals against
the winner between Belgium and USA.

Titanfall Expedition.

TITANFALL EXPEDITION

Genre:

The genre of this game is Action, adventure and violence.

Audience:

This game is for people from the age of 14 - 30, I believe this because people under the age of 16 play it anyways, so I think that 14 should be the age rating for this game.

Platform:

I think that this trailer will be shown in the cinema, on TV, and you could see it on your phone, laptop, computer or tablet.

GCSE Media: Textual analysis

DIVING PRANKS

Genre:

This genre of this clip is comedy.

Audience:

I think that the audience of this video is 7-45. I think this because usually anyone younger than 7 wouldn't get it, neither would anyone older.

Platform:

This would be shown on YouTube and definitely not in a place like the cinema or on Television.

FIFA 15 advert

FIFA 15
Genre:

The genre of this game is sport advertisement, tension, and action.

Audience:

This game is for people from the age of 7-40, I think this because there is some violence in it and because it is a game of which you need to use your brain a lot, anyone older than 40 will not have much left in their brain.

Platform:

This advert will probably be made to be shown in the cinema, on the TV, and on phones, computers, laptops and tablets.
